CURIOUS CITY

I worked as an Outreach Coordinator for WBEZ’s Curious City for all of 2016. Curious City collects questions from the public about Chicago, the region and its people and then uses station reporters and freelancers to answer their questions. My goal was to figure out ways to help Curious City have a geographically diverse pool of people asking and answering questions. I worked with WBEZ Editor Shawn Allee to figure out what parts of the city and suburbs were currently asking questions. Then I tried a couple different ways of reaching people who weren’t in that pool. I travelled to city neighborhoods and suburbs and solicited questions face-to-face. I ran a Facebook marketing campaign. And I created partnerships with libraries and restaurants to try and tap into their networks. The outreach efforts will help Curious City create a sustainable question gathering system that reflects the region moving forward.
